E-learning at the Institute EKG - a new programme for the systematic support of teaching/learning processes through digital media

E-learning has long been an integral part of the everyday work of teachers and students at the university - so what does the new IEKG programme offer?

There are currently many opportunities at Paderborn University for students to use digital media for their studies. In addition to the digital and electronic media used in the courses, there is learning material available online that is specifically compiled for the individual courses (literature, links, files, videos, etc.). This has the advantage that students can access and learn from the material at any time and from any location.

However, e-learning offers even more: the flexible support and deepening of learning processes as well as joint learning among students can be systematically built up and specifically developed for the individual courses

The IEKG has taken up this approach and developed a special concept for students in the HRGe Home Economics and Nutrition teacher training programme.

E-tutors at the Institute of Nutrition, Consumption and Health*

E-tutors are student assistants at the Institute ofNutrition, Consumption and Health who support and accompany lecturers in the use and integration of digital media in teaching. This involves electronically supported learning (e-learning) using various e-learning tools (e.g. KoaLA, Moodle).

All e-tutors at the EKG Institute have completed a semester-long training and practice programme at Paderborn University(https://www.uni-paderborn.de/universitaet/bildungsinnovationen/e-learning/e-tutoren/) and have acquired both didactic and technical key qualifications to support and accompany teachers in the institution of their specific teaching/learning environment.

Advantages and added value of e-learning:

  1. Time- and location-independent learning, also together with other students in the chat or forum
  2. Flexible organisation of learning processes: Adaptation of your own learning style and pace, revision in the event of illness
  3. Targeted support from trained e-learning tutors
  4. Targeted exercises for the individual courses to prepare for exams (tests, wikis, votings etc.)
  5. Increasing media and self-learning skills
