Scientific Advisory Board for Agricultural Policy, Food and Consumer Health Protection starts new appointment period

The Scientific Advisory Board on Agricultural Policy, Food and Consumer Health Protection (WBAE) has begun its work with a new composition. At the constituent meeting, the members of the Advisory Board elected Prof. Dr Britta Renner and Prof. Dr Christine Wieck as the new chairs. Prof. Dr Anette Buyken and Prof. Dr Martin Banse will take on the deputy chairmanship.

The interdisziplinär advisory board currently consists of 19 experts from science and research, who are appointed by the Federal Ministry for a period of three years. Following the regular end of the previous appointment period and the departure of the long-standing chairman, Professor Dr Achim Spiller, ten experts were newly appointed to the advisory board and five members were confirmed in office.

The primary task of the WBAE is to advise the Ministry on a voluntary and politically completely independent basis. The committee analyses future developments with foresight and independently prepares expert opinions and statements on topics of its own choosing. These scientific recommendations serve as important orientation and impulses for policy-makers to ensure future-proof agriculture, sustainable nutrition and effective consumer health protection. As part of the current kick-off meeting, the committee is already discussing the upcoming work priorities and upcoming expert opinions for the current mandate period.
